The study assessed the factors influencing school dropout in Nigeria. The study utilized the structural functionalism theory to explicate the factors influencing school dropout in Nigeria. Data generated for the study were principally secondary sources. The study concluded that poverty, insecurity, lack of planning and corruption among the political class and the elite are the major factors responsible for school dropout in the country. The study recommends that functional education should be provided by the government and should cushion the effect of poverty on out-of-school children in Nigeria. This can be achieved by mitigating the indirect cost of education through the provision of free textbooks, notebooks, free feeding and the provision of school uniforms which cannot be afforded by most parents due to poverty. Also, Teachers should endeavour to inform students of the negative consequences of dropout as it affects their wellbeing. School graduates earn averagely based on their educational qualification. A school dropout has no educational qualification, which can only make him be placed on menial jobs. Keywords: Assessment, Factors, Influencing, School Dropout, Nigeria
