The structural adjustment globalisation advocates for transformation of public service of developing countries in conformity with the neoliberal policy of downsizing. This study examines the impact of globalisation policy of downsizing on the job security of public servants in Yobe state, Nigeria. An exploratory qualitative method was used to interview nine senior civil servants working in Yobe state public service. The data collected based on views of the respondents and were analysed using thematic analysis with the support of Nvivo software. The findings of the study revealed that the departments, agencies and official vehicles downsizing would reduce public expenditure, not necessary downsizing the workforce. This is in contrast with most literature that considers the employees' retrenchment as a means of cutting the cost of administration. Hence, it affects the job security of civil servants. The article concludes that staff training, posting of employees, and assigning the right schedule of duty will lead to quality service delivery in the public service. It recommends that the government should look inward to block financial leakages, such as downsizing the departments and official vehicles and reducing public spending.
