This study assesses traditional conflict resolution mechanism and peace building in Taraba State: a study of Takum Local Government Area. Three research objectives and questions were formulated to guide this study. The study adopted Human Needs Theory Participatory Theory of Development as its theoretical framework. Qualitative method is deemed appropriately for the study as the research explains the traditional conflict resolution mechanism and peace building in Takum local government area Taraba State. The study found that Mediation represents the prevalent form of traditional conflict resolution, a variety of other methods exist, including dialogue, negotiation, cooperation, discussion, third-party intervention, and collaborative problem solving. Also the study indicates that traditional rulers in Takum wield significant influence within their communities. A unified leadership helps in presenting clear, consistent messages and decisions to their communities. The study concluded that in Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State, traditional conflict resolution mechanisms and peace-building practices are deeply rooted in the cultural heritage. These mechanisms are critical for managing disputes and maintaining social harmony among the diverse ethnic groups in the area. The study recommended that there is a need for engaging Traditional mediation and arbitration institutions in resolving community based disputes and separatist’s agitation in Takum local Government Area. There should be a range of peacebuilding strategies that can be embraced to supplement ongoing endeavors aimed at fostering peace and stability across the local Government Area Keywords: Tradition, Conflict, Peace Building,
