This study examines the influence of human capital development in mediating the impact of population growth on economic growth in Nigeria between 1980 and 2022. Data set from the World Development Indicators (WDI) and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were analyzed using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. Empirical results revealed that human capital development has a positive and significant impact in the relationship between population growth and economic growth in Nigeria in both the short run and long run. The study therefore recommends that the National Population Policy & Family Planning may not be favourable to economic growth of the country. Rather, greater emphasis should be placed on improving the quality of the population through increasing the school enrolment. Keywords: Population, Economic Growth, Human Capital Development.
