INTERFAITH MEDIATION CENTRE IN MANAGING ELECTORAL VIOLENCE IN BAUCHI STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

The study analysis the role of Interfaith Mediation Centre in managing electoral violence following the post-2007 and 2015 election violence in Bauchi State. The Peace building theory was employed while a descriptive research design was adopted. Purposive sampling technique was used. Samples of 58 respondents were selected and the data was presented based on thematic content analysis. The key findings of this study revealed that government promote peace and stability in Bauchi state irrespective of political parties, tribe and religions believe most resist from any attitude of teaching that would generate violence. Interfaith Mediation Centre managing electoral violence in various communities through youth‟s sensitization in Mosque and Churches. Religious leaders sensitize youths not to engaged in post-election violence and allow the government to do their roles. The study recommends that both Interfaith Mediation Centre and government should continue sensitize the peoples in promoting the culture of peace.
